Toxic Inheritance/ What’s Really Killing Our Elders?

Our elders grew up in the generation of “Better Living Through Chemistry” and many homes I work in are a powerfully toxic nod to this idea. What’s under every sink, in each garage and shed in my dear client’s homes may very well be the thing contributing to their ills. The moth balls, leaking paint, chemicals, pesticides, fertilizers, broken bulbs, batteries, and mystery products in old pickle jars all permeate their homes. Attics, storage, and crawl spaces are favorite places for rodents and critters, moreover another source of toxic overload. As you spend time with your senior loved ones this holiday season please consider checking in on these areas in their homes. Here in Travis County we have a Hazmat Pick Up Program free for seniors. Gather any chemical offenders and place them in plastic tubs or containers and then cover to keep them dry. Find a spot that is easily assessable (not behind a fence, Travis County will not enter your back or side yard) and call (512) 974-4335 for pick up. Truly this is a gift that will keep on giving, a win-win for you, your loved one and the planet. Super Hero stuff. Happy holidays and blessings to all.
